Some ideas arrive quietly. They slip in through a gap in your thoughts while you are doing something completely unrelated — washing up, sitting in traffic, staring at the ceiling at two in the morning wondering why you cannot sleep. They do not announce themselves with fanfare or arrive with a set of instructions. They just appear, settle in and refuse to leave.
That is exactly what happened to Claire.
She was not sitting in a boardroom when it came to her. She was not surrounded by advisors or consultants or people in expensive suits nodding along to a presentation. She was in her kitchen, wearing a cardigan she had owned for approximately nine years, drinking tea that had gone slightly cold, and thinking about a problem she had been quietly frustrated with for longer than she cared to admit.
The problem was not complicated. In fact, it was the kind of problem that makes you wonder why nobody had properly sorted it out already. She had been looking for something — a product, a service, a solution — and finding that what existed was either overpriced, underwhelming or built for someone who was definitely not her. She had searched online. She had asked around. She had come close a few times, only to discover that close was not actually close enough.
And then, somewhere between the second cup of tea and a biscuit she told herself she was not going to have, the thought arrived.
*What if I just did it myself?*
